Who wants to be number 2?

This week I was reading an article in a business magazine. I read a quote from the new CEO of Digicel El Salvador. He stated that his company wanted to be number 2 in the market. That caught my attention since I thought everyone wanted to be number 1. But after giving it some thought I came to the conclusion that being second is better that first, at least as far as leadership matters. Many leaders and pastors fall into the illusion that just because success is visible they don’t need to be taught. Pastor Carlos teaches this very clearly. Many pastors preach in every service that their church has, but when do they sit and learn from someone else? There is time for everything, but it’s always a good time to learn. Leaders and pastors let us not forget that we also need to be taught. It is necessary that we take time from our schedule of teachings and learn from our own disciples. If we taught them well, they should always be able to teach us. A great teacher is good as long as he is a g...

The fake apple

Yesterday Pastor Carlos shared with us the message based on Psalms 26:2 . Kind David is asking God to test his heart. But...can we say the same thing? Are we sure God will be pleased with what's inside it? To help understand it better Pastor Carlos had some apples in a table and started cutting the in half and showing the audience that those were real apples, real Christians. But it got to the point were there was a fake apple. It looked like an apple, but it was not. It sang like a Christian, but it was not. It gave offerings and tithes...but it was not. So the question was: are you a real apple? Or just a look-a-like? Or a wanna-be? What are you? P.D. The real apples tasted great!

Let it go

Reading through this post it got me thinking that this is one of the hardest things to do in life. Letting go when you've loved it Letting go when you've have worked hard for it. Letting go when you've have succeed in it. Letting go when you've lived it. It's not easy, but it's necessary. We can not hold on things forever. Not even memories. I'm not suggesting that we have to forget about the good things in life and the people that have been good to us, NO. But we should not live on those memories. Leaders need to understand this very well. We should always look to do more in the kingdom of God. But when its time to let go, we should be prepared for what feelings might come and try to stop us from doing what God has called us to do. Moses is a clear example of this. His father-in-law had to tell him to let other leaders handle the "day-to-day" stuff, and him just do the hardest things to solve. I experienced this just a couple of days ago. I star...

Living mirrors

Last night I had to stay late to work. But this time it was not a burden to do so. I had the oportunity to talk to this young man that works with me about christian life. He shared with me that recently his mother had told him that his problems were because he was not having a close relationship with God. Suddletly, the next hour went by flying. He told me that he used to go to church when he was younger, and that he even was a youth leader in his church and that he -and I quote- "even preached" . He also shared with me that once he was leading the worship along with other 400 people in his church and that it was a great experience! The only problem was that he was no longer going to church. He even sang to me a couple of songs that he "liked very much". I could not resist but to ask him: that was then, what about now? We cannot live out of past experiences, memories, past victories. But what about TODAY ? How is our relationship with God TODAY ? What did he said to...
